Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey stated he felt he had edged the ball when he was given not out on DRS on day one of the third Ashes series Test against the English.
After surviving on 72, Carey went on to make a excellent 106 to help the home side post 326-8 at the close in Adelaide.
The Key Moment
Australia were 245 for 6 when Carey went for a cut to the bowling of Josh Tongue.
England lodged a strong appeal, thinking they had heard an nick, but on-field official Ahsan Raza remained unconvinced.
After skipper Ben Stokes referred the decision, the footage reviewed by TV umpire Chris Gaffaney indicated a significant spike although this registered before the ball had passed the bat.
Gaffaney also said he was of the opinion there was a clearance between the bat and the ball.
Therefore, Carey was reprieved.
"I thought there was a feather or some sort of noise when it passed the bat," said Carey.
"Being given out would have prompted a review, though not a confident one. There was a definite noise."
Technology Debate
Discussion has swirled about 'the Snickometer' during the Ashes contest after a several unclear calls.
Bowling coach David Saker suggested England may pursue this most recent incident further with the match official Jeff Crowe.
"I don't think we've done anything about it so far but after today, maybe that might go a bit further," Saker remarked.
"It's been a worry for us all series long. We shouldn't be talking about this after a day's play, it should just be better than that. That's the situation."
Personal Milestone
His hundred was his first in Test cricket against England.
It was also an poignant moment for Carey, whose father passed away in September. His spouse was crying in the crowd as the batter celebrated by pointing to the heavens.
"Scoring a century at home with family watching was incredible," stated Carey.
"I guess you know as well why I was looking to the heavens. I'm trying not to tear up. But, no, it was great."
Previous Ashes Drama
Carey is not new to Ashes controversy.
He was the keeper who notoriously stumped Jonny Bairstow at Lord's in the 2023 Ashes series, which created a febrile final day.
On his reprieve he continued: "The sound wave didn't match up. That's cricket - you get the rub of the green sometimes."
"I might have gotten away with one."
