Her Royal Highness's Annual Yuletide Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers
Her Royal Highness has organised her customary Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The large audience will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.
A Theme of Kindness and Compassion
The central message of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.
Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the festive gathering.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Musical Talent and Access
Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to young musicians backed by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.
Generations Gathering
Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Among the guests will be people from various age groups.
That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for food banks.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
